More than 3,000 complaints have been filed by owners and more than 50 legal grievances have been filed against Ford. These complaints include nausea and dizziness when driving their Ford Explorers. Details in a report. Excessive exhaust fumes and carbon dioxide are reportedly seeping into the cabin. Even some police departments claim that Explorers 2017 exposed officers to similar symptoms. Austin police removed nearly 400 Explorer Police Interceptors (from their fleet) from their officers’ vehicles. One officer sued Ford for this. Ford spokesperson Mike Levine stated that all the vehicles were repaired and returned to service. Ford’s 2017 release notes that the problems in Police Interceptors could have been attributed to the use of third-party equipment.

These complaints concern Ford Explorers manufactured between 2000 and 2018. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which began investigating the issue in 2016, didn’t act until a year later, after receiving “preliminary evidence of unsafe carbon monoxide levels” in Explorers. Ford could face a recall crisis if it deems these cars unsafe.

Mike Levine, a spokesperson for the company, stated that “all of our testing has proven these vehicles to be safe.” Bloomberg . Ford’s investigation did not find carbon monoxide levels exceeding what people are exposed every day.

Ford announced a solution in 2017 that “effectively resolved the matter,” according to a statement. The vehicles are still eligible for repairs until the end of 2019. However, Explorer owners may still have issues according to the Bloomberg report.
