Owners can remove them, which is the good news.

Although insurance for hypercars is not very glamorous, Jalopnik states that the problem is causing Bugatti Chiron’s to develop two unattractive growths on their backs. Insurers are forcing hypercar makers to add these protrusions to the rear of the model because they lack protection against low speed fender benders.

They extend just inches beyond the rear exhaust, and appear to do little to prevent body damage. It is also possible that the pickup truck average would hit the coupe in a rear-end collision due to their low height.

Jalopnik claims that Bugatti makes it as simple as possible to get rid of these unsightly protrusions. These two bumps are made up of one piece and have exposed screws that attach it to the rear. There is a possibility that the tumor could also be removed, which would mean the license plate cannot be secured to the rear. If the buyer is able to afford a hypercar worth $2.5 million, they should be able to find another way to attach it.

Bugatti has only produced 500 Chirons in the world, and the latest tally shows that at most 250 hypercars have buyers. About a third of the production has been shipped to North America so far. The company plans to build 70 more this year. The first examples are already on the road.

The upgraded Veyron’s quad-turbo W16 now produces 1,479 horsepower (1.103 kilowatts), and 1,181 poundfeet (1.600 Newton-meters). Officially, the company restricts the top speed to 261 mph (420 km/h). However speeds exceeding 280 mph (451 km/h) may be possible without the limiter.
